8 Ways to Integrate Technology in the Classroom

Written by Chanel M. Sutherland.

Did you know that higher education students consider technology a necessary tool for learning? In fact, many students choose their universities based on how tech-savvy the institution is. A daily interaction with technology is essential to keeping them engaged in their studies and will also help prepare them for a future beyond the classroom.

To help you start off a fulfilling fall semester, we have put together a list of ways you can integrate technology into your classroom.

  1. Formative feedback solution:

Don’t wait until mid or end-of-term evaluations. Start listening to what your students are saying from the first day of class. A live formative feedback tool will allow students to give confidential feedback anytime, anywhere. You can act on feedback immediately and make adjustments where needed. This will help improve end-of-term course evaluations results as well as student success outcomes.

  2. Augmented reality (AR) app:

An augmented reality app will enrich the way your students learn. Use an AR app to make your lessons come alive. For example, have students explore the stars in our galaxy with the Sky Map or explore a three dimensional spacecraft with NASA’s app, Spacecraft 3D.

  3. Podcast:

Podcasting is a popular way to deliver information. Consider creating a podcast in your classroom to engage your students while strengthening their research and critical thinking skills.

  4. Online course evaluations:

We’ve said it before – moving your course evaluations online will help improve the student experience. This will provide them with seamless access to evaluation forms anytime, anywhere in order to drive engagement.

  5. Text analytics:

Make sure you’re getting the complete picture when it comes to student feedback on course evaluations. A good text analytics tool will help you discover insights and opportunities in unstructured, open-ended comments. These comments are often very helpful in explaining “why” a student might give a certain score on an evaluation.

  6. Virtual lectures:

Virtual lectures offer students the flexibility to learn at their own pace. They are a great way to enrich the learning experience with online access to videos, audios, animated graphics, etc. They also provide a platform where learners and instructors can have instant interaction.

  7. Game-based learning (GBL): GBL is an effective way to motivate and actively engage your students. In the learning environment, GBL allows students to apply lessons to games that look and feel like real life.
  8. Introduce 3D printing:

3D printing has become more affordable and easily accessible. It is a good way to make your curriculum more tactile and hands-on. When students can touch a physical objects that they designed, it unlocks a world of possibilities that can drive future innovation.
