Coventry University Appoints Explorance for Course Evaluation Collaboration

Montreal, Canada – October 5, 2020 –  Coventry University, shortlisted for UK University of the Year in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021 and ranked as a joint top modern university in England for its graduates’ career prospects in the Guardian University Guide 2021, has appointed Explorance to enhance its approach to course evaluation further.

The University, which supports nearly 35,000 students across its campuses in Coventry, London, and Scarborough, has developed its own centrally-agreed approach to module surveys using a combination of quantitative and qualitative processes but is now looking to extend its work around programme performance with the addition of Blue.

“Module evaluation is so important because it gives students the opportunity to express how things are going from their perspective, and gives us enough time to act on their feedback for how a programme can be improved or developed,” said Professor Guy Daly, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education and Students) at Coventry University. “For many years now, we have acted on the data we receive at multiple levels: Faculty, School, and course, but also institutionally through trends on teaching and learning.

“Even with the pivot to online learning, we continued to use various mechanisms at our disposal to capture the student perspective, all within a culture and raison d’êtreas a higher education provider where the student always has a voice. That relationship is one of equality and co-production for the most part, in which all parties bring different things to the table, and we endeavour to continue enhancing what we do. Ultimately, we want to be able to respond as effectively as possible to feedback from students, and our collaboration with Explorance will enable us to better understand the student experience.”

Professor Guy Daly continued. “As we look ahead into the new academic year, the automation brought out by Blue’s reporting system and quick and effective distribution of reports to colleagues at different levels within the University will be especially important in enabling us to act on feedback even earlier. Explorance’s contribution will be absolutely crucial in quality, assuring our offer, and supporting the integrity and depth of the educational experience.”

John Atherton, the General Manager of Europe and Africa at Explorance, said: “Coventry University has grown significantly, in size and reputation, and has an exciting vision for the future. It is committed to utilising module evaluation for institutional improvement. Our work is now underway to introduce and implement our Blue course evaluation software, which will enable the University to derive and act on greater insight from its students on learning-related matters. We are extremely proud to be partnering them.”

In the UK, Explorance is also providing the following institutions with Blue or Bluepulse engagement network software: Aberdeen, Birkbeck – University of London, Brighton, Durham, Glasgow Caledonian, Kingston, Liverpool John Moores, Loughborough, Nottingham Trent, Northumbria, Sheffield, Strathclyde and the University of Law. In July 2019, Explorance was appointed by APUC (Advanced Procurement for Universities & Colleges) as a multi-supplier UK education sector framework for the supply of student module evaluation systems and associated services to HE and FE institutions of Scotland. The framework agreement is also open to member institutions within the UK universities procurement consortia meaning that they too can use the framework and have the option to appoint Explorance directly as the ranked number one supplier through APUC.
