Written by Explorance , Explorance.

It seems that everyone is thinking a lot about leadership. Many words have been written on the topic and the importance of leadership has been illustrated time and time again. According to American scholar, Warren G. Bennis, “the most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born”. Everyone has the potential to become a leader with a little practice, so are you up for a challenge? Are you ready to unlock your leadership potential? Today’s post illustrates six tips you can use to improve your leadership skills.

  1. Have a vision.

By definition leaders inspire and motivate others. You need to believe in something to be able to do so. Ask yourself, what do I stand for? What do I represent? Once you have a grasp on what you believe in you can create vision. Where do you want to be? What are you going to do with what you believe?

  2. Be confident.

It will be hard for others to believe in you if you do not believe in yourself. To gain confidence, recognize your skills and think of all the goals you have met. Remember that a there is no cookie-cutter approach to leadership. Be true to yourself and create your own personal leadership style.

  3. Learn every day.

In the words of John F. Kennedy, “leadership and learning are indispensable to each other”. Research has found that “more active and versatile learners subsequently consider themselves more frequently involved in engaging and leadership behaviors”. Leaders operate in dynamic and evolving environments. You must learn every day to thrive in such an environment.

  4. Challenge yourself.

Staying in the safe and comfortable zone will not allow you to reach your full potential. Grow by challenging yourself. While this may sound intimidating, remember that you have already started challenging yourself by taking part in these six tips. Kudos!

  5. Listen to others.

Effective leaders gather feedback from others. Time and time again it has been stated that feedback is necessary for improvement. Improve by asking others how you are doing and listen to what they have to say. Similarly, effective leaders bring out the full potential in others. You must listen to what others are saying to be able to enable their full potential.

  6. Take risks.

Change is inevitable and will require some risk taking. Step out of your comfort zone and be prepared to take calculated risks. Don’t let your business stagnate by playing it safe. The world is moving too quickly for a passive approach.
