Nottingham Trent University Appoints Explorance to “Module and Course Evaluation Enhancement” Brief

Release date: 16th September 2019

Nottingham Trent University has appointed Explorance to a module and course evaluation enhancement project following a competitive procurement process. The University, which is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK with 30,000 students and 4,000 staff, sought a provider to enhance its approach to student evaluation of modules and courses and a product that could be integrated with institutional systems and datasets to support its needs.

“Student feedback on modules and courses is an important aspect of successful quality management,” said Jane McNeil, the University’s Executive Dean of Learning and Teaching. “We’ve identified three areas we want to develop further: improved communication about feedback outcomes; better data for use at course, school and university level; and adoption of a fully digital process. Explorance will help us fulfil these objectives. Our overall goals for this project are to improve student satisfaction, reduce environmental impact, increase efficiency, improve management information, and contribute to the development of learning and teaching.”

Explorance ranked first in the tender process for technical merit, delivery and corporate social responsibility, and delivery has now commenced. “Working with Nottingham Trent University on this strategically-important project is tremendously exciting for Explorance,” said John Atherton, Higher Education Sales Director (UK & Ireland) at Explorance. “The ambitions of the University’s leadership and project team are clear, and we are looking forward to supporting this key part of their quality management and enhancement framework. From enabling students to provide online feedback, mainly in class settings via mobile devices, and making real-time response rates visible to academics conducting surveys in-class; to reporting at module and course level and supporting the ability to analyse student feedback data and other data sets, Explorance is perfectly placed to help.”

Explorance has a growing list of UK university clients, including Aberdeen, Birkbeck, Durham, Glasgow Caledonian, Kingston, Liverpool John Moores, Loughborough and Strathclyde, which are using its Blue or Bluepulse course evaluation software. In July Explorance was appointed by APUC (Advanced Procurement for Universities & Colleges) to a multi-supplier UK education sector framework for the supply of student module evaluation systems and associated services to HE and FE institutions of Scotland. The framework agreement is also open to member institutions within the UK universities procurement consortia meaning that they too can use the framework and have the option to appoint Explorance directly as the ranked number one supplier through APUC.
