The American Petroleum Institute Invests in Blue to Enhance Survey Reporting

The association is ready to upgrade its ability to collect pipeline performance data, generate complex reports, and ensure high data security

Montreal, Canada – November 24, 2014 – The American Petroleum Institute (API) has selected Blue as its comprehensive assessment system to manage its pipeline safety performance data.

Moving from an in-house tool, API requires a robust solution that can integrate with Microsoft SharePoint, ensure high data security, and generate detailed reports to meet stringent requirements. As the premier source for the petroleum industry, API needs to produce accurate, comprehensive, and timely reports. With the upcoming installation of Blue, the association expects to quickly create a variety of reports using results for advisory bulletins, pipeline performance tracking, and more.

“P-O Bjorkhede and the team from Explorance participated in a highly competitive strategic sourcing process to find a survey, analysis and reporting tool that could meet API’s unique requirements relating to Pipeline Performance Tracking across the US oil and natural gas industry, as well as scale to potentially meet other similar enterprise requirements in the future,” said the Senior Program Manager, Information Systems Department, American Petroleum Institute. “They were first class throughout this process, provided the value added information that enhanced our decision making capability, and ultimately won API as a client through a combined balance of competitive capability, price and demonstrated characteristics of a true partner.”

The ability to gather and analyze more detailed data is crucial for API’s Pipeline Performance Tracking System (PPTS). Part of the oil pipeline industry’s Pipeline Safety Excellence initiative, PPTS is used to monitor spills, identify trends, and gain a holistic view of industry performance. Through reporting and analytics, Blue will provide key insights that will help the institute and its members continuously improve, increase efficiencies and move towards the goal of error-free and spill-free operations.

The American Petroleum Institute is a trade association based in the U.S. that represents the nation’s technology-driven oil and natural gas industry. Representing leaders in the industry, the association has over 600 members which include exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipeline, marine, and service and supply businesses. API members supply most of America’s energy and support 9.8 million U.S. jobs and 7.7 percent of the U.S. economy. Delivering more than $86 million a day in revenue to the government, the institute has invested over $2 million in U.S. capital projects to advance all forms of energy.
